The Belgian who posted the 4th fastest Iron-distance time in history at Ironman Austria is ready for a breakthrough at Kona.
She’s going for four in a row. She broke Newby-Fraser’s Kona record. Her 8:19 at Roth smashed her own world best. And she says her broken arm was the best thing that ever happened to her.
The owners of the Ironman brand of multisport events dove down in distance with its announcement of 5150, a series of Olympic-distance races that poached prize properties from the Life Time and ITU series.
We wandered over to the pier this morning where it is getting quite busy now.
Many eyes are currently on Mirinda Carfrae with the 2010 Ford Ironman World Championships approaching rapidly. The 2009 runner-up is no longer a rookie and thus more dangerous than before. She had a few words with us.
Ironman’s purchase of the Muncie Endurathon revealed an interesting sidebar: WTC asked for, and was granted, a 60-day blackout around its event. How prevalent is this, and is it a reasonable expectation by WTC?
It took more than 20 years, but, the cycling world has finally embraced the 650c wheel. Or, at least, one among the world’s professional cyclists, and that rider is the new and reigning world professional TT champion.

Bevan Docherty sat out the ITU World Championship finals in Budapest Hungry but showed with his win at the 2010 LA Triathlon that he hasn’t lost a step. Lisa Norden used a dominating bike split to grab the women’s title.
Only a twist of fate , bad luck, or Chrissie herself can derail the Wellington Express on its way to a record 4th women’s title in a row.
With several Ironman wins under his belt Luke McKenzie is looking to step up a few spots in Kona this year from his 15th place in 2009. The Aussie has been in Kona for about a week now and has settled in nicely.
This week we stumbled across the Tough Mudder event, the very fine Honey Stinger Waffle, the Kona Demo Days, the Iron Blazeman song and a concert in Kona.
