We Noticed: IRONMAN Pro Series Standings, On Shoes Funds Dope Testing, New IRONMAN Event in Chile and Supertri Fields

Pro triathlete and cyclist Cameron Wurf has a solid run on his way to a seventh-place finish at the 2024 IRONMAN World Championship in Kona.

Yes, we know it’s early going for the IRONMAN Pro Series with all the world championship events in the fall, but believe it or not we’re nine races in to an 18-race series and, despite having to spend time in the penalty tent at IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman, Cameron Wurf has moved to the top of the standings. There are lots of provisos to go along with that, of course – he’s counting the maximum number of races (five) and no one else in the top five has done more than three. Wurf can definitely add to his points total by scoring another IRONMAN race to bump out some 70.3 points, but it’s a stretch to imagine he can take the overall series. A top finish could be in the cards, though, if he can have a decent performance in Frankfurt and/ or a big day at the worlds in Nice.

For the women Anne Reischmann continues to lead the way, but Kat Matthews isn’t far behind and she hasn’t scored a 70.3 race as of yet. Here’s the current standings after the Eagleman race:

ON Partners with the ITA and AIU

Not sure how we missed this one, but last month On announced partnerships with the International Testing Agency (ITA), which is the agency that works with World Triathlon (and IRONMAN), along with the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), which runs the World Athletics Registered Testing Pool.

“Building on its dedication to a fair and transparent sporting environment, On has partnered with the ITA to provide its triathlon athletes with expanded access to high-level anti-doping controls,” On’s press release stated. “This collaboration builds upon the ITA’s existing work with World Triathlon, allowing for increased inclusion of On’s triathletes in the Registered Testing Pool (RTP) and supplementary testing. This initiative is coupled with access to complementary anti-doping education facilitated through the “On Athlete Compass” program.”

“We applaud On for taking the initiative to ensure its athletes are protected by independent, expert anti-doping programs,” said Benjamin Cohen, the Director General of the ITA. “This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to fostering a clean and fair sporting environment where athletes can compete with confidence.”

IRONMAN Announces New Event in Chile

Athletes will now have a couple of events to choose from in Chile – in addition to the race in Pucon there is now another 70.3 race in Puerto Varas. The inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Varas will take place April 12, 2026. The swim takes place in Lake Llanquihue “with views of the iconic Osorno Volcano in the distance.” The “mostly flat” out-and-back bike course circles the lake, with the three-lap run course goes through the city and “Puerto Varas’ Costanera (waterfront).”

A tornado ripped through Puerto Varas in May, damaging more than 250 homes.

“The staging of the new IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Varas in 2026 becomes even more meaningful to its host community, serving as a beacon to uplift community spirit and stimulate the local economy through tourism, hotel occupancy, and commerce,” IRONMAN wrote in today’s press release.

Beaugrand Highlights Supertri Lineup

Supertri has “revealed” the first 11 competitors for this year’s Supertri League and it’s hardly a surprise that reigning Olympic and world champion Cassandre Beaugrand (FRA) highlights the field in search of her first Supertri title.

On the women’s side she’ll be joined by recent WTCS Yokohama champ Jeanne Lehair (LUX), Taylor Spivey (USA), Emma Lombardi (FRA) and Barbara De Koning (NED).

On the men’s side Supertri announced today that Vasco Vilaca (POR) will be taking on Jonathan Brownlee (GBR), Dorian Coninx (FRA), Hugo Milner (GBR), Chase McQueen (USA) and Kenji Nener (JAP).

So far we know of four of the events in the Supertri League this year: Toronto (July 26), Chicago (Aug. 23), Jersey (Sept. 21) and Toulouse (Oct. 5).

  1. Puerto Varas Chile in April sounds like single digit celsius air temps!!! Any locals from the region want to comment on the race venue? Looks intriguing (but cold)

  2. Hahahaha Cam Wurf leading the standings is just hilarious…Legend!!

Contrary to Ironman’s marketing BS copied and pasted by Kevin (good article in general though!), they’re taking over an existing March race which in fact was run under the Challenge brand in 2022 and 2023. Challenge Puerto Varas was cancelled in 2024 due to permitting problems and then resuscitated in 2025 without an international brand. The April date, according to the internets, would on average be about 3 degrees colder than the March one with a high of 16 degrees Celcius and a low of 8 degrees.

  4. So Spivey is keeping her WTCS ranking up and will be a player, you’d think, in Wollongong.
The T100s have gone pretty well and she stands at #3 after two races (in theory about sixth best when taking Knibb, Findlay and LCB (only one result) into account.
And now we see she’s signed up for supertri.
    Busy lady.
One assumes WTCS Hamburg in July.
T100 London between Toronto and Chicago (maybe, or miss it).
Will she race WTCS or T100 at Frejus (end August, a week after Chicago), or both!
Miss Valencia in September (racing supertri Jersey).
I guess supertri Toulouse is doable before heading to Aus for WTCS GF, but miss T100 LLV. Has T100 Dubai with a lower SOF: many of the top athletes will be racing Marbella instead.

  5. It’s that low of 8C. First part of the bike especially in the rain could be miserable

I wonder if SuperTri is going to suffer this year from lack of ‘big’ names on the mens side. Yee, Wilde, Luis, Hauser, Bergere, etc. That’s a massive chunk of talent that doesn’t look to be involved this year.

  7. Actually that’s not 100% accurate. The challenge race was in early march, and was created to “dethrone” IM 70.3 Pucon. The pro field was top tier both years (Sam Long, Matt Hanson, Haley Chura, Laura Siddal, Lucy Byram, and many more), with a quite cold and rainy 2022 and a windy and mild 2023. I raced both.

2024 was cancelled because city town relation with local organizers was poor, and that make quite difficult to the race to happen. Actually, not only that challenge race was cancelled but also Coquimbo (north of Chile), leaving lots of athletes without response and, until date, not refund (including me).

This a whole new group, whom are currently organising IM 70.3 Valdivia (end of november), which first edition was a success. IM 70.3 Pucón (second week of january) it´s a completly different organization. So it’s not a rebranded race, not even close. I would say Puerto Varas never wanted the race, the restaurants and other services CLOSED on race day, locals didn´t go to side activities, etc. So I’m very surpriced this is happening again.

Puerto Varas is beautiful AF. It was poblated inicially by german settlers, so it has that inheritance. Bike is windy rolling hills, same as the run. The big doubt is the date. April could be shiny and happy or rainy like a flood, freezing cold and a DNF party.

It’s getting crowdy here in the region, because in april we will have IM 70.3 Puerto Varas next to IM 70.3 San Juan (Argentina), IM 70.3 Lima (Perú) and IM 70.3 Punta del Este (Uruguay).

Thanks for the interesting account of events!

Btw, I took a look at the map and was surprised to find that Pucon and Puerto Varas are practically on each other’s doorsteps! Just 300 km away in a country that is 7500 km long and takes four days of driving non stop to go from north to south. Crazy.

  9. And Valdivia right in the middle
