Photo Gallery: Lucy Charles-Barclay Takes Her First PTO/ T100 Win

Keeping cool as things heat up at T100 London – Charles-Barclay runs her way to a big win. Photos: Kevin Mackinnon

She’s the last woman to win the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona. She’s a 70.3 world champ, too. Ever since the PTO announced the T100 World Tour, Lucy Charles-Barclay has been “in.” Last year she was especially motivated for the T100 race in her home town of London, but would end up having to drop out on the run. Today she finally got her first PTO win, which will no-doubt be especially satisfying since she did it in front of so many family members and friends, but also because she dominated the run to do it. No longer is Charles-Barclay just a swimming and cycling phenom – today she proved she has some running chops, too.

Here’s some images from today’s women’s race here in London.

Charles-Barclay, second in line, was a bit behind the rest of the crew off the start.

But it wasn’t long before she was in front, with Jess Learmonth and Taylor Knibb behind.

The two Brits remained in front as they started the second loop …

With Knibb close behind.

Kate Waugh was fourth at the 1 km point of the swim, and would end up third at the finish, just ahead of Knibb.

Learmonth would charge out early on the bike …

But Waugh was never far behind, with Charles-Barclay and Knibb staying in the mix.

Waugh would take a go at the front …

Then Charles-Barclay tried to put her stamp on the race.

Julie Derron would never get in the mix near the front off the bike, and would end up coming off the bike over four minutes behind the leaders.

About two-thirds of the way into the bike Knibb made a move to the front, but the three other frontrunners were able to keep her in check.

Holly Lawrence looked good early in the bike, but would eventually drop out of the race.

Ashleigh Gentle would end up over six minutes back off the bike.

Charles-Barclay rode her “London-themed” bike to the front, hitting T2 in front.

Charles-Barclay led the group of four out onto the run course …

… But Waugh was just seconds behind.

Waugh would take the lead at 3 km, and would remain in front until the 16 km point …

Knibb never looked her normally dominant self, but would hang tough in third.

Charles-Barclay would run her way to the lead with 2 km to go and enjoy a huge home-town greeting as she ran down the chute …

… to take her first T100 win.

  1. Awesome pics. Thanks for the coverage from onsite!!!

  2. Thanks Devashish! Was incredible racing today. Impressive performances by Lucy and Hayden!

  3. In terms of Knibb not looking her normal self maybe that spring Ironman took more out of her than expected. Lucy however, had less time to bounce back from Lanzarote

  4. She sounded pretty sanguine in her post race interview.

  5. I wonder what Taylor Knibb’s primary objective is this year. I assume it is Kona, in which case a 3.5 hrs race in July is meaningless in the context of an 8.5 hrs peak race in October

  6. Yeah maybe she’s in the “jack of all trades, master of none” stage in her build. She seems content and in good spirits coming in 3rd.

  7. This article and pics are from LAST YEAR’S RACE (2024) NOT THIS YEAR.

Legit what are you talking about?

  9. Acc to the results I saw this morning for this year’s race, Ashley Gentle won and LCB DNF’d, but now the very same site (Tri247) says LCB won and Gentle was 8th. So I stand corrected but I SWEAR I saw the GENTLE win this morning (Eastern Time in U.S.). In any case bravo as, being a swimmer, I am a big LCB fan.

Be honest: do you know how to change a flat on your bike?

If given the choice, you prefer to ride a wheel that is:

Do you believe that hookless wheels are unsafe, or simply not for you?
