IRONMAN Expands Precision Fuel & Hydration Partnership with PH1000 the Official Hydration Drink Globally

IRONMAN will feature a unified global on-course nutrition and hydration experience for athletes in 2026. Today, IRONMAN announced that they have partnered with Precision Fuel & Hydration as the “Official Hydration Partner” for all IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 races, beginning in 2026.

Terms of the deal, such as financial compensation or the length, were not disclosed.

It’s an expansion of the existing agreement between the two companies, which saw Precision Fuel & Hydration earn title sponsorship at the recent IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in Marbella, Spain. Precision Fuel & Hydration’s drink product had also been served on course in Europe, Oceania, and South Africa in 2025. Now, that agreement expands to include North America, replacing Mortal Hydration on course.

Athletes hoping that the drink mix on course will include a significant amount of calories will be disappointed. The agreement sees Precision Fuel & Hydration providing their PH1000 effervescent tablets to create an electrolyte drink mix. Each tablet, meant for 16 ounces of fluid, provides 500 milligrams of sodium, 130 milligrams of potassium, 20 milligrams of calcium, and 10 milligrams of magnesium. There’s 10 calories and 3 grams of carbohydrate per tablet. According to Precision Fuel & Hydration, the citrus flavor on offer in this product is specifically designed to “minimize flavor fatigue.”

In a release announcing the deal, IRONMAN touted that, “PH 1000 is specifically formulated to help athletes manage two of the ‘Three Levers’ of endurance sports nutrition, fluid and sodium, while carbohydrates are provided by energy products from on-course fueling partner Maurten. This ‘decoupling’ of fueling and hydration has been praised by elite and amateur athletes alike for providing flexibility during longer endurance events.”

Precision Fuel & Hydration’s line up of products does offer other mixes that contain more carbohydrate in them. Namely, the powder version of PH1000 features 65 calories and 17 grams of carbohydrates per 16 ounce serving versus the effervescent tablets. There are also 500 and 1500 strength versions for those who may need additional sodium support; those numbers refer to the milligrams of sodium on offer per liter of fluid.

Jonny Tye, co-founder of Precision Fuel & Hydration commented, “Triathlon is a key part of our DNA, with my business partner Andy racing Kona back in 2004 and many of our team having completed an IRONMAN race. We love being part of the community and are so pleased to have become a Global Partner of the IRONMAN brand. We are committed to having fun whilst helping athletes perform at their best and have some big plans for the 2026 season!”

IRONMAN Executive Vice President of Global Partnerships Yanni Andreopoulos added, “Our partnership with Precision Fuel & Hydration has already delivered tremendous value to athletes on site at our events in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and we’ve seen first-hand how their science-driven approach enhances the race experience. Expanding this partnership globally is a natural progression, ensuring consistency and quality at every IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 event. Together, we’re committed to giving athletes the tools they need to perform at their best, wherever they choose to race.”

The deal also sees all of IRONMAN’s race events added to Precision Fuel & Hydration’s free Fueling & Hydration Planner. The tool asks for a few data inputs, such as sweat rate, sodium in your sweat, and your projected race pacing, in order to generate a specific carbohydrate, fluid, and sodium target per hour. I put in my inputs for the IRONMAN race I’ve signed up for in 2026, which came up with the following recommendation:

Having worked specifically with a sport dietician to develop my hydration plan, this is almost exactly the same output I’d had from that individual. It’s a good recommendation.

When it comes to details, the company first recommends its own products, regardless of what is served on course. For example, my sample fueling plan included packets of PH1500 as opposed to effervescent tablets, and using their own gels to supplement my carbohydrate needs. However, the planning tool also specifically calls out how to be able to hit these nutritional needs while relying solely on the products available on course, which you can see as an example here:

In total, I think it will help athletes be more prepared for the specific nutrition that will be available on course, and to prepare their own solutions if they are not going to rely on the course. One of the most consistent pieces of feedback, including on our reader forum, was that athletes were unprepared for the lack of calories and carbohydrates coming from the hydration options on course. By using a brand that excels in education on this front, it is more likely athletes will be able to plan accordingly. Going back to myself, I would be more apt to bring more of my own hydration (e.g., PH1500 in powder versus tabs), and rely on the course for carbohydrates and additional hydration above and beyond what I can bring myself.

The other advantage of this agreement, in my opinion, is that you’re now looking at a nearly universal fueling experience at every IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 race across the globe. Having a mishmash of products makes it harder for athletes to travel to different events and know what to grab on course. It’s a smart choice for overall athlete experience.

  1. Thank God

  2. That’s great news! I really hope they switch out the fueling partner too. I hate Maurten…that stuff is way too thick for my liking.

  3. About time. That purple tainted water garbage from Mortal was repulsive, lacked critical carbs. Just a stupid stupid thing to put out there.

I’m starting to think Scott DeRue might actually be a good thing for Ironman. He may even be hiring intelligent people who make good decisions. Looking forward to this upcoming race season even more now that i won’t have to be carrying bottles on the run.

  4. I’m not going to live off the course on an excessive 1000mg of sodium per serving but it’s better than Mortal.

  5. if mixed per instructions is 1000 mg per 32 oz. and at least is has some carbs.

FWIW the PH1000 tablets contain 500mg of sodium in 500ml, which is what we’ll get on course. Also to note, in Spain they used the effervescent tablets, which caused PH1000 to explode all over me when I opened the bottle for the first time. I understand those are easier to mix, but I’d really prefer they use the sachets of powder that don’t have carbonation.

  7. Thank Christ

  9. Thanks for the clarification. Was hoping it was the powder.

  10. Where does the name 1000 come from

We’ve been through this :joy: the convention is to display sodium content in milligrams per liter, hence 1000 mg/l. Welcome to the world of enslavement units

  12. TIL, makes sense.

Personally I’m more excited about this announcement from the perspective of the run. I can get in my carbs and sodium on the bike without relying on aid stations, and really only stop if I want cold water to dump on myself. But for the run this is a great way to get 1-2 cups per aid station of a solid electrolyte drink. It won’t hit my sodium goals alone for the 13.1/26.2, but it will really help in not falling behind. Plus, the taste of PF&H is much better than Mortal.
