Bozzone, Keat in Shepparton

Terenzo Bozzone added to his string of recent successes with a win at the 2012 Ironman 70.3 Shepparton thanks to a 2:09:34 bike and 1:12:02 run effort. Rebekah Keat ran away with the title in the women's race in a course record time.

Joseph Lampe led the men out of the water in 22:35 with Terenzo Bozzone at 23:18 and Jason Shortis at 27:33.

Bozzone's race best 2:09:35 bike split allowed him to reach the bike-run transition virtually together with Lampe, to pursue his 3rd title in as many attempts. Leon Griffin was next into transition, but he had lost about 2 minutes to the leaders.

Out on the run Bozzone soon dropped Lampe and Griffin at one point managed to catch Lampe for second place. Bozzone though had another splendid day and took the win with a 1:12:02 run. Lampe managed to overcome that spot of bother and came home in second place with Griffin rounding out the podium.

Lisa Marangon and Rebekah Keat were the first Pros out of the water
with their 24:42 and 24:46 efforts. All other female Pros required at least 26:45 to complete the 1.2 mile swim.

Marangon looked great on the bike and pulled away from Keat to reach T2 with about a 1-minute advantage. The best bike split of the day though belonged to Katherine Baker who rode a 2:24:32 and that allowed her to reach the bike-run transition close to Keat.

Keat though unleashed a monster run and quickly dropped Baker who seemed to pay for her hard effort on the bike. Keat also stormed past Marangon to take the win in course record time of 4:16:17.
