Course Description
You’ll be swimming along the shore of Nantucket Sound. Typically water temperatures are in the high 60s or low 70s. Athletes are not any further out than 100 yards from shore. The course is heavily lifeguarded and safety boats are present. Wave conditions over the years have ranged from glass-calm to a moderate chop; never “big surf” in these protected waters.
This “rolling hills” bike course leaves the shores of Craigville to enter into the historic village of Centerville, then winds its way through the stately villages of Osterville and Wianno before returning along a shore road to Craigville Beach.
The athletes head off toward the village of Hyannisport, with a quarter-mile flat run evolving into a gradual climb for a quarter-mile, then a gentle rolling grade until the last mile which is a gentle downhill grade. Two aid stations (water and fluid replacement drinks) are staffed by enthusiastic volunteers along the way.
