Ready for a Big Day: Jonas Schomburg and His Canyon Speedmax and New Shimano Wheels

With files from Ben Snyder-McGrath

Ahead of the IRONMAN World Championship in Nice in 2025, Kristian Blummenfelt named Germany’s Jonas Schomburg as a dark horse who could shock the field with a big result. He ended up being right, as Schomburg finished just outside the top five in sixth place — not bad for his first season of IRONMAN racing.

This year in Nice, Blummenfelt didn’t give Schomburg’s name as a potential surprise on race day at the 70.3 World Championship — but not because the German has fallen off the map. Quite the opposite. Over the course of the last year, Schomburg has gone from someone who might do well to someone who is expected to.

Since his race in Nice last September, Schomburg secured a fourth-place finish at the 2025 70.3 worlds in Marbella, a win to open the year at Challenge Sir Bani-Yas in the United Arab Emirates, second in a stacked field at 70.3 Oceanside, fifth at Challenge Roth and first at IRONMAN Kalmar, taking home his first full-distance win in an blazing-fast time of 7:22:57.

He rode a Canyon to each of these incredible results, and that won’t change on Sunday. He will be climbing and flying down the hills of Nice on his Canyon Speedmax CFR, a bike he showed off to us at Slowtwitch. Like Kat Matthews, whose bike we checked out earlier this week, Schomburg is also riding Shimano’s new Dura-Ace wheels. Check out all the specs that he’ll be riding this weekend as he looks to climb higher and onto the podium than his fourth place last year.
