FastTT is Making Moves

With the recent news that FastTT is now an available upgrade on Quintana Roo bikes, I figured it was a good time to publish my review of the whole set up I have been working on. If you’ve spent any time in transition areas or scrolling triathlon forums lately, you’ve probably noticed FastTT aerobars popping up on more and more bikes—from Kona qualifiers to local sprint racers.

The company first showed up on my radar at the women’s IRONMAN World Championship in Nice. They looked fine but, honestly, when I see something new, I usually just wonder how long it will be around. And then I got my hand slapped (and rightfully so) when we forgot to add them to bike count last year in Kona. They had 100% earned a spot on the world stage, and I simply forgot to add them. But that started a conversation with Wayne Attwell, the owner. So, once I had some time, I finally got around to digging into the website and he helped me configure what I wanted for the front end of a P-Series we have in the shop.

So, with that, I got my hands on two of FastTT’s most popular products—the Complete Cockpit Combo and the Big Kahuna Twin BTA Kit—to see whether the hype is justified. Here’s what we found.

FastTT Complete Cockpit Combo

Price: USD $1,825–$1,945 depending on configuration

Savings: Over $200 versus buying components individually

What You Get

The Complete Cockpit Combo pairs FastTT’s new Xénos318 base bar with the 2.0 tri bar—the same extension that’s earned a following among pros like Grace Thek and Marta Sánchez. It’s designed as a true bolt-on system: everything mounts directly to any standard 31.8mm stem, which means you don’t need a proprietary setup, or a new frame, to run it.

The kit ships as a comprehensive package. You get the 400mm-width base bar (a single-side-up design with a 20mm drop), your choice of standard or extended adjustable angled risers, spacers in 20mm and 10mm sizes, a full set of M6 mounting bolts, and an integrated BTA bracket for a bottle cage or top-mount hydration system. The 2.0 tri bars come in your choice of four sizes (S, M, L, XL) and two finishes (matt or gloss black). The base bar ships in a natural UD carbon finish.

Shifter Compatibility

FastTT covers the major electronic groupsets: Shimano Di2/SRAM Clics, SRAM AXS Wireless and Campagnolo EPS. Shifters and cradles are not included, so you’ll need to source those separately—but this is standard practice for aftermarket cockpits and gives you flexibility if you already own compatible shifters.

First Impressions & Ride Feel

Out of the box, the build quality is apparent immediately. The carbon layup is clean, the hardware feels robust and the riser system offers a satisfying range of adjustability—enough to dial in your position without the frustration of running out of range. The ergonomic shaping of the extensions is one of the standout features; the hand position feels natural, and you can settle into them for long efforts without the numbness or wrist fatigue that plagues some competitors’ designs. So far I like these pads the best our all the pads I have personally laid my arm on.

On the road, the system feels stiff and responsive. There’s no flex, or creaking, under load, which inspires confidence during aggressive cornering, or when powering up climbs. The aerodynamic profile is noticeably sleek—the Xénos318 base bar tucks in tightly and the 400mm width keeps your frontal area compact. I do worry that people are going to over extend on this base bar and with the shape it could slip.

A Note on Reach

FastTT is upfront about recommending no more than 60mm of forward reach. This is worth paying attention to—some athletes chase extreme positions, but FastTT’s guidance here signals that they’ve tested for structural integrity within that range and don’t want to over-promise beyond it. It’s a responsible approach and, for most athletes, 60mm of extension reach is more than adequate for a comfortable, aero position. This of course would be in addition to the already +50mm reach that the design of the base bar already gives you. So that is +110mm from the center of the end of your stem.

And this is my only what if question — at what point is too far forward and as that force really starts to hit that center piece of carbon when on bumps, does that start to slip?

Big Kahuna Twin BTA Kit

Price: USD $239

What You Get

The Big Kahuna is FastTT’s answer to a common long-course problem: how do you carry enough fluid between the arms without turning your cockpit into a drag parachute? The kit stacks two bottles vertically using a 130mm integrated cone tower for the bottom bottle and an aero bottle cone for the top, with a twin stack bracket and all necessary mounting hardware included.

The bottles sit horizontal between the arms, with the aero-optimized profile designed to minimize frontal drag. It’s directly compatible with FastTT’s mono and twin stack adapter plates, as well as other cockpits using 62–65mm bottle threads.

On the Bike

For anyone who’s done a full-distance race in the heat, having two bottles within arm’s reach is a game-changer. The stacked design keeps the bottles centered and low, which means the weight distribution doesn’t upset the bike’s handling. The cone system holds bottles securely—there’s no rattling on rough roads—and the horizontal orientation makes it easy to grab and replace bottles without breaking your aero position. I would like to see a little more adjustment but with adjustments comes complexity and potential for things getting loose. I will note these are mostly light 3D printed parts and I’m not sure how I feel about that yet. What I generally don’t like about the 2 bottle towers is how much of a beating they get up front. A lot of BTS systems try to go for lighter weights when I would rather have something bulletproof rather than light. I appreciate the fairing effect that helps with the drag of the bottle but I would prefer the tower to be machined or carbon. It would just match the quality of everything else that I have seen from FastTT.

At $239, it represents solid value for the long-course athlete who takes aero nutrition seriously. Although at some point IRONMAN really just needs to admit that this in fact a faring 🙂 Also please not that cages are not included.

Compatibility Note

One important caveat: the Big Kahuna is not compatible with the Specialized Shiv Tri mono riser model. If you’re running a Shiv, double-check your setup before ordering.

The Full Picture: Running Them Together

Where things get really interesting is pairing the Complete Cockpit Combo with the Big Kahuna. The integrated BTA bracket on the Xénos318 base bar means the hydration system mounts cleanly and securely—no aftermarket adapters, no cobbling together parts from different brands. Everything is designed to work as a system, and it shows. The combined setup gives you a fully aero-optimized cockpit with dual-bottle hydration that doesn’t compromise your position, or your bike’s handling.

For a total investment of roughly $2,065–$2,185 (cockpit plus hydration), you’re getting a premium, race-ready front end that competes with—and in some areas exceeds—integrated cockpit systems costing considerably more.

Who Is This For?

The Complete Cockpit Combo is aimed squarely at age-group and pro riders alike who want a professional-grade cockpit system without buying a whole new bike. If you’re riding a frame with a standard 31.8mm stem—whether it’s a Quintana Roo V-PRi, a Cervelo, a Canyon, or any number of other tri bikes—this is a serious upgrade path. The Big Kahuna adds particular value for anyone racing 70.3 or full-distance events where hydration strategy can make or break your run. Let’s just use some math really quick when it comes to the Cervelo P-Series ( which what I would chose over the P5). The current price difference on the top of line P-Series and the P5 is almost $6K. What is the main difference? The cockpit/ front end. The P5 integrated front end is fast and smooth. But it’s harder to travel with and you can get almost as smooth by just changing out your cockpit. Now it’s still a lot of money to swap out, but, if you compare apples to apples this upgrade apple is pretty darn close for $4,000 in saving. Of course if you have an older tt bike or have an aero road bike and are looking to and are looking to upgrade or add an aero cockpit, this is something to really explore.

The Verdict

Besides FastTT having built a reputation for doing cockpit systems well, and these two products reinforce that. I would put this system right next to the newer profile design stuff that took profile decades to perfect. The Complete Cockpit Combo delivers with aerodynamic performance and long-distance comfort, while providing enough adjustability to accommodate a wide range of athletes. The Big Kahuna solves the dual-bottle hydration challenge elegantly, and without aerodynamic compromise.

Are they cheap? No. But they’re thoughtfully engineered, well-built and backed by a brand that’s clearly listening to what triathletes need on race day.

While the two bottle holder can be nice I do like the look and feel of a single bottle up front.

If you’re looking to upgrade your cockpit and your hydration game in one go, there’s a compelling case to look at FastTT’s options. And while I totally blew it on taking photos of the shipping boxes that all of this stuff arrived in, itt was the very well designed and put together. I guess I will just have to order a second pair.

Which one would you ride?

  1. Single bottle for me!

  2. FUN! I pulled the trigger on my new bike, and it will have the full FastTT extensions & related stuff. Looks great in pictures, and I cannot wait to ride it first-hand.

  3. @E_DUB I’m all in on the Fast TT stuff. Easiest and most adjustable setup I’ve ever had on my bike.

However, I had heard that the tall riser stacks for the hydration had troubles with twisting when trying to get a bottle out. Just the nature of it essentially just being two very long screws mounted parallel to eachother without any bracing.

Did you experience any of that?

I have a whole paragraph about my opinion on the riser section. I think a lot what you are talking about can be a situation that depends on what bottle and cages that someone is using.

  5. Got it. I guess since you didn’t mention any twisting I’ll assume you didn’t experience that with the bottle cages you tested. Since I use the same cages, lets hope I don’t have that problem either.

I think some of that just takes time as well. I’ll keep you posted if I experience any of that. I have another ride this weekend on it.

  7. Wait, $239 for a 3D printed riser and a Wolf Tooth B-RAD? Am I missing something here? Why are accessories like that priced so dang high?

  8. How do the little caps (cone looking things) at the end of the bottle cages on the BTA system not count as fairings under the new Ironman rules?

  9. Avatar for walie walie says:

not even a legit B-RAD, looks to be a $10 Amazon knockoff. I used one for a McGuivered BTS setup and it snapped in half on the first ride

  10. Avatar for walie walie says:

if they’re hollow, you can claim them as trash storage

  11. The fairing rules are very much just vibes based. There’s 0 logic in them. Now that these are available as an upgrade on QR (official IM sponsor) ain’t no way they are going to be ruled a fairing even though everyone with eyes can see that they are.

$2K aerobars. And some wonder why people are not flocking to the sport.
