Tim O’Donnell Answers Your Questions

A lot of prognosticators lost faith in Timothy O’Donnell as a podium contender this year in Kona. Tim got the last laugh, finishing second to Jan Frodeno’s most complete performance yet. Six times a top-10 Kona finisher, the 2019 performance resulted in Tim’s highest place, in his fastest time. His 7:59:40 is only the third sub-8 hour finish in this race. Captain America’s season was peppered with injuries, the last of which was a re-aggravated broken ankle only weeks before the race, which is why he was a write-off on a lot of fantasy picks.

How did he feel about his chances leading up to the Kona? You can ask him. He’s talking to Slowtwitchers this week, not in an interview, but directly to Slowtwitchers, or if you want to be ultra-precise, he’s writing to you (unless he’s using text-to-voice, in which case I guess he is talking to you), in an Ask Me Anything thread on our Reader Forum (reachable via that link).

He’s joining us from Australia’s Sunshine Coast where he is spending the holidays and off-season, so please keep time zones in mind. Here is Tim’s recent post-Kona interview with our Tim Carlson, if you’d like a little background before you ask. If you have any equipment questions you may refer to the feature we just published listing what all the top male finishers used during the bike leg. We also publish a companion piece on what the top-15 men and women used during the run, and while that’s not yet published, here’s what Tim ran on/in/with:

Clothing: Castelli All Out
Running shoes: HOKA One One Carbon Rocket
Eyewear: Oakley
GPS: Garmin Forerunner 945

We will probably ask Tim about stationary, as Tim is a Garmin athlete, which could presume due to a 2019 acquisition he may also be a Tacx athlete, but one of Tim’s partners is Technogym. I’ll ask him what populates the family pain cave in his Ask Me Anything thread.
